I had a small meltdown last night about my lists. I was worrying about using up my apples, engineering our Halloween costumes, using the veggies that we bought at the farmers' market - including pumpkin needing cooked down, cleaning my house before guests arrive, making a grocery list, taking care of my dog and husband, and dealing with work crap.

And when I type it all out, I don't feel so bad about being stressed.

My base stress level is still high, but since I used up all the remaining apples in a couple pies (one with caramel bits - it's delicious!) and went on a successful grocery hunt tonight, I'm not quite so frazzled. A slice of nearly-straight-from-the-oven pie was my reward for completing piece 2 of 5 for my costume. Piece 3 is a little done, as is piece 4. Piece 5 shouldn't be terribly difficult, since I've made it before in other colors and fabrics. I think I even have all the makeup I'll need.

I think that I've planned out enough meals to use up the veggies. I'm going to give roasting parsnips, carrots, and potatoes a try. I've never tried to do actual oven-roasting, but I have olive oil, fresh rosemary, and kosher salt, so I think I'm probably good to go. Not sure which day will be spaghetti squash day, but it should be this week. Same for pumpkin day - I need to get some more pumpkin done so that my sister and I can make whiskey-laced pumpkin cake. Mmmm.

I've kind of decided that I'm going to not worry about the house. It comes at the bottom of the list. I'll try to keep up with some of the low time-intensive maintenance, but I can't let it add to the things that are dragging me down. Same goes for work. I need my eyelid to stop twitching, so I'm trying to avoid as much stress there as possible.

M'eh. I'm feeling decently accomplished right now and my drugs have kicked in, so I think I should go to bed. I've listened to my new favorite song about 10 times and have a pretty good idea on how the dancing's going to go.

Day one of Massive Conference of Doomity Doom at work - Complete.
Lasagna for tomorrow night - Prepped and in the fridge.
All stomachs in house - Fed and happy.
Baby blanket for far away friends - Finished and card purchased to go in the package.
Laundry - All done, folded, AND put away. Yesterday. Way better than my average.
Football - Except for the Badgers, Massive FAIL over the weekend. Now watching the Cowboys.

Spore? Don't mind if I do.
sabine: (Rocks fall)
Things to purchase before the weekend:
- Hair clips
- Hair spray
- Green onions
- Guacamole, or the ingredients for it
- Cups
- Plates
- Utensils, but I should check what we already have first.

Things to do before the weekend:
- Finish my skirt Continue twirling in my skirt because it's just too much fun not to! (Circle skirt. Miles of hem. 1.5 full circles of burgundy satin. My life is closer to complete)
- Finish my hair scarf
- Figure out a way to pin flowers to hair thingies
- Write out the Plan for how all the food will be timed
- Clear off the kitchen table and the coffee table
- Heck, let's clear out the rest of the living room, too, if possible
- Convert my sewing room into a guest room
- Work out a couple times
- Not go crazy

Right. Let's get on it.

Was there really a tornado on the Beltline last night? I ask because the parking garage is pretty empty today. It seems like only the people who live in Verona or further out were able to make it in. I'm guessing that most people are stuck in traffic or in a detour because there are not nearly enough OOO messages in my email.

Assuming it doesn't rain again today, here's my plan:

Work, work, work
Weed the garden
Get gas in the car
Grocery run: cereal, bananas, bread, milk, potatoes, chicken
Home for dinner, Wii Fit, and reading Widdershins

This sounds like an achievable plan. I like it.

What I was planning on doing tonight:
  • Go home
  • Walk the dog
  • Take trash to the curb
  • Do dance class exercises and drills
  • Shower
  • Make dinner
  • Prep dinner for tomorrow night's game
  • Make the gingerbread
  • Turn, topstitch, and mark the grommet holes in the Bodice of Doom for Lady Van Laar
  • Find a box or something to ship the entire set of garb
  • Put away the mountain of clean laundry that is threatening to take over the entire upstairs hallway.

What I ended up doing tonight:
  • Rush home
  • Speedwalk the dog
  • Speed-haul trash to the curb
  • Watch my new dance video and have way too much fun with the drumming
  • Run through the choreographies, screw up the end of Jimelleh as usual
  • Shower
  • Combine fruit, oatmeal, eggs, and tea into a very good dinner for a Sabine
  • Sit back with a brand-spankin'-new copy of Small Favor that showed up today, a cup of tea, and a blanket
  • Read about 250 pages before sternly telling self that sleep is good
  • Remind self that it's highly probable that I'll get called at 12:15 by work, anyway, and I could have finished the book by then

This book? Was written JUST FOR ME! I have been laughing out loud all evening and thoroughly enjoying the story. I may yet get Literary Indigestion from it, but I. Don't. Care. So good. eee!
sabine: (Bitchcakes)
Goal #1 - Wake up
Status - Moderately successful. There was some Sims-waking-up-drama, but that was mostly defused by the greyhound asking for tummy rubs.

Goal #2 - Proceed with morning routine
Status - Near failure. My laptop once again decided that it didn't want to play nice with the network. No webcomics for me this morning. If it hadn't been for the Cheerios and coffee that headline my every morning, there would have been an upset Sabine, for we dislike changes to the routine.

Goal #3 - Begin food preparations for this evening
Status - Tentative success. The Crockpot is full of a new Recipe, an egg was sacrificed to the Linoleum Gods, and if I can get Downwood to clean off the stoneware pan, dinner might even be on time. Who would've thought?

Goal #4 - Get ready for work and go there
Status - Mostly fine. Getting ready is no big deal, but driving in through fog, drizzle, and dark did not make for a happy, bouncy, I'm-glad-to-be-up morning.

Goal #5 - Have a good day at work
Status - Too soon to tell. Maybe I'm aiming high.

Goal #6 - Be prepared for game tonight.
Status - I need a bullet-point list of the events and to write up three things. Hm. We'll see.
Status - Pretty much done. Meetings are good for something, apparently.

Goal #7 - Finish dinner prep
Status - Need to stop at the store for a critical ingredient that, though in the recipe title, somehow didn't make it onto my grocery list yesterday. I R SmrT.

Goal #8 - Run game
Status - Kinda dependent on #6, but that's never stopped me in the past.

Goal #9 - Find motivation for tomorrow
Status - Unlikely, but could happen.

huh?

What the crap? My layout seems to have reset itself. Or, it could be back to normal again. Stupid @*#$@&%!#ing LJ.

In other news, when I can get past this "too goddamn busy at work to do anything other than work and, occasionally, breathe" stage, past the "I'm home and I think my brains are running out my ears", and past the "My life is too boring to write anything about, what with the workworkwork and the blearghles", I'll try posting regularly again.

Goals for October:
  • Post more often
  • Dance more often
  • Workout in general more often
  • Get rid of one or more customers
  • Try to not let The Month In Which No Good May Come live up to its name
sabine: (Corset)
Go to the hardware store for:
  • Spring steel
    ~3/8" width and ~3 yd
  • Heavy-duty zip ties
  • Tarp eyelets

Go to the fabric store for:
  • Small black buttons
  • Black cotton for pirate pants
  • Red/Pink/Green/Something for piratey sash
  • Matching thread for sash fabric
  • Iron-in interfacing
  • Wide black bias tape
  • Black and silver embroidery floss to braid into decorative cord

Go to Walmart/Target for:
  • Cheap, but surprisingly flattering, tank top
  • Pretty solid-colored, comfortable-fitting, decently modest bra
  • Stock up on bathroom/cleaning stuff
  • Full length mirror for the dancing and costuming room

Do the following, but don't feel bad if not all of it gets done:
  • Make pattern and hat for Downwood
  • Get eyebrows done (eek)
  • Wash clothes! Fold clothes! Put away clothes!
  • Repaint toes
  • Make pattern for pirate corset....remember that you have a corset now that you could pattern off of (see icon)
  • Feel really SMRT at figuring that out
  • Cut out pieces for corset, floofy blue silk shirt, and possibly some piratey pants
  • Sew anything that's cut out
  • Dance, dance, dance, and maybe even run
sabine: (Pirate Jen)
I spent the first day of the year watching football (yay Wisconsin!), reading hot Unseelie smut (yay LKH!), crocheting (yay yarn!), leveling in Dead Awaken (yay zombies!), fabric shopping (yay sales!), and running around town to find cold remedies (yay tea!).  If the rest of the year continues in this relaxed of a fashion, I'll be a very lucky Sabine.  I don't expect that every day will be this easy, but I can hope.

Resolutions for 2007 - Things That Might Actually Happen
  1. I will run a game - plot and system to be determined later.
  2. I will play a character who is not crazy.  Or totally afraid of combat.  Or a sociopath.
  3. I will bake something at least once a month.
  4. I will work to the point where I can run 5k without stopping.
  5. I will try to lose ~20 pound, but if I can put on my Heris outfit and not cringe, I'll call this one good.
  6. I will accomplish #5 by reducing junk and trying really hard to meet #4.
  7. I will paint a minimum of 8 minis so that the center portion of my printers' drawer will be filled.
  8. I will continue to love my husband, adore my greyhound, and try to treat my friends as the precious people that they are.

That seems like a reasonable number of resolutions.  Yes, this seems like it may work.
sabine: (Rocks fall)
This is mostly just to get this out of my head. My attention span is remarkably short this morning, leading me back to the Lists Are Good state.
  • Write and mail checks to DJ, flower shop, and dentist.
  • Ask Bex if she wouldn't really prefer a different mini, since the only one I was able to find has something wrong with the side of his face. Offer to paint like Two Face if this one is perfect in every other way.
  • Get issues lists at work into shape. Don't get caught checking LJ and Dead Awaken.
  • Convince immune system to get it together. I don't have time to be sick right now and these sniffles, stuffyness, and wheezes need to stop. Go home from work early, eat ramen, drink tea, nap. Damn immune system
  • Go to pet store, buy dog food.
  • Go to craft store, remember to take coupon along, get new teeeeeeensy brushes.
  • Go to dollar store or *shudder* Wal-mart. Get cards, a calendar, and tins for cookies.
  • Review cookie recipes, make list of needed supplies.
  • Go to grocery store. Get cookie ingredients, milk, cream, and something to cook for dinner over the weekend. Maybe cereal, too. Maybe ask the other people in the house if they need anything. Decide that they know where the store is and they're perfectly capable of shopping for themselves.

  • Call sister, decide what gifts we're buying for our family.
  • Clean bathrooms
  • Clean kitchen, clear off counter space.
  • Clean kitchen table, locate freaking huge bowls and plates for the storing of cookies.
  • Don't go insane.
  • Clean bedroom so that it can be vacuumed and maybe even dusted.
  • Write short BPAL reviews of Count Dracula (I must molest me), Gennivre (very feminine with a dark edge underneath), and Punkie Night (apple cider).
  • Make time to get to Social Security office to get name changed.
  • Get official copy of marriage certificate to prove to banks, government, etc that we actually did get married.
  • Continue to not go insane.
  • Remember that no matter how crazy life gets, it's still pretty good. And when Mom continues with the passive-aggressive guilt trip tactics, I'm allowed to hang up or walk away or, if I'm feeling really brave, call her on it. But not in front of Grandma.
sabine: (Cute but psycho)
  • Choose new Latin phrase for LJ title.
  • Call pianist, have her call music director for church.
  • Call other church, have them send the official letter for my uncle to the church where we're actually getting married.
  • Finalize cast for ceremony.

  • Figure out what's going wrong with these label printers and reports.
  • Soothe customer, finish development, get problem solved.
  • Deposit checks, pay bills.

  • Wrap packages, mail them.
  • Mail final 5 invitations that Mom added to the list yesterday.
  • Call tux place, get info from them.
  • Get Downwood measured.
  • Take ribbon and color swatches to florist.
  • Find a hair place.
  • Call jeweler, see how long they need to attach my wedding bands to my engagement ring.
  • Make appointment with makeup lady.

  • Call photographer, have meeting to finalize what pictures we want and where we'll take them.
  • Hunt down DJ. Get info from him.
  • Decide on food and booze for shindig.
  • Call cake place. Finalize things.
  • Find new shoes.
  • Start massive cleaning of domicile.
  • Bathe dog.
  • Call church coordinator, set up final meeting.
  • Next week go get marriage license.
  • Call Dad, let him know how things are going.
  • Finish writing short story
  • Excavate bedroom from mountains of laundry
  • Finish typing out readings for ceremony.
  • Now to type out the priest's parts
  • Have another cup of coffee and realize that the list isn't actually growing. Feel real good about life in general.

sabine: (Handbasket)
  • Bag for hated trip to CA - Packed
  • Practice corset - Half the boning channels sewn, ran out of boning. I think it's going to be too big, but I might be able to make it work regardless. Definitely need more boning and some bias tape to bind the edges.
  • Sisters of Battle squad - First and second coats of red on the armor and a blister on my thumb. Put away until next weekend.
  • Copious amounts of tea - Drunk
  • Downwood's parents - Introduced to Rain and all the locations for the wedding.
  • Laundry - Clean clothes for the both of us
  • Other cleaning - Ignored
  • Worry and stress levels - Skyrocketed

Yep, I'm still in Mega-Panic mode about this trip. I really don't deal well with change, even in the short-term like this. Yeah, when Downwood was in Chicago, we would go every week not seeing each other from Monday to Friday. But I've gotten extremely spoiled the last few months. I like knowing that he's going to be next to me when I wake up.

Everything's going to be fine. I hope. I'm taking workout clothes, game prep stuff, some books, a computer, and the blackwork for The Project That Won't Die (aka Downwood's new faire shirt). I'll have phone software on the computer and Gmail chat. And all my email accesses. Of course, I'm working 6:30 AM to 7 PM shifts, so it'll be late nights that I update and try to find someone to talk to.

*deep breath* I think dinner's done. I'm going to go soak up some more time with my sweetie. It'll be okay. Really. I think I believe me.

My favorite pair of pants have been officially retired. The grey khakis have served me well for many years, but are now Unfit To Wear In Public.

A small memorial service will be held Saturday morning in my closet. A luncheon will be provided before an expedition launches to attempt to replace the hole in my wardrobe that, in truth, is not unlike that which mars the derriere of the grey pants.

Rest in peace, my favorite pants. My one regret is never telling you how much I have appreciated you. *sniff*

Thus far today I have:

Packed for the weekend
Bought donuts
Gotten to lab
Made one pot of coffee
Begun experiment
Found two potential reviewers for my manuscript

I still need to:

Submit manuscript - DONEDONEDONEDONEDONE!!!!

Check email - DONE!
Finish experiment - DONE!
Water plants - DONE!
Get gas/check tire pressure - DONE!

I should probably get the oil changed, but I think that it can wait until Monday. Probably. Hm...I think I'll ask the car what he wants when I leave work. It is not good to anger the automobile that you're depending on for transportation.

Holy shit! I made really strong coffee today. I'm surprised my mug hasn't started disintegrating. Excellent.
