Since moving out to our little town and since having two kids, our available gaming time has decreased to something less than zero. We're impatiently waiting for Emi and Ox to get big enough to play games - Emi is already good at rolling dice, but she's far too little to understand rules and cooperative role playing.

I miss telling long, complicated stories. I like setting up a frame and then letting other people fill in the details - sometimes you end up with a Strigiformic cult devoted to Wednesday, sometimes you attempt to find the halflings and nearly kill your friends in the process. I never know what's going to turn out awesome, what's going to fall flat, or what's going to get latched onto and last forever.

You also get some awesome in-jokes. For reals.

One thing that's been helping me stay a little closer to sane is telling Emi stories. They don't start out complicated in plot, though things change as Emi adds to the story. We have some self-rescuing princess stories, dragon-spaceship stories, zoo stories, balloon stories, and other stories about her toys or whatever we did during the day.

Part of our bedtime routine is to turn off the lights, lie down, and tell a story. This works pretty well to convince her that it's bedtime and get her to sleep. It doesn't work so well when she wakes up at 3 AM, crawls into our bed, and demands a story to help her go back to sleep.

But I'd totally play a game where the PCs are dragons on a spaceship. That just sounds awesome.
