Day Ten - Crafting

I spent most of the morning at work completely miserable. My body doesn't know if it's starving or wanting to throw up my toenails. At noon, I decided that this was a sign that I needed out of that environment and into my home environment. I brought my lunch home with me because, hey, I wanted to eat it and I would prefer to throw up at home instead of at work, if that was inevitable.

Luckily, so far it's not happened. Woot.

Ahem.

Anyway, after eating enough that I didn't feel like gnawing on my own arm, I went upstairs to finish up the blanket that I'm giving Mom for Hogswatch. It's my first attempt at quilting and, though there are flaws, I think it looks pretty nice. When I finished it, I looked around at the chaos that is my craft room and felt very contented. Yes, there's a lot of stuff in there, but it's *my* stuff and it's mostly things that can be made into other things.

At last count, I officially had Too Many Craft Hobbies. Here's what I can remember off the top of my somewhat scattered brain: sewing garb, quilting (whee), crochet of all sorts, painting minis, refurbing books into art, cross-stitch, painting terrain, and probably some others that have totally escaped my mind. I don't count cooking as crafting, even when I manage to put together a cheesecake filling without a recipe - especially since I haven't tried it yet to see if it's any good.

Craft stores will suck me in and drain my debit cards. And every time I go in, I'll see a kit or a project in some other art form that makes me think, "Hmmm...I bet I can do that..." And then Downwood rolls his eyes, sometimes rolls up his sleeves, and helps me get the ball rolling on something else new and exciting.

It makes me happy to make things. I do not have the ability to sit still quietly and prefer to have something in my hands. I like giving away most of what I make because (1) our house isn't all that big and (2) I like making other people happy.
