Day Eight - Fabulously Creative People
Each year
cadhla writes a small bit of fannish fiction for each day of advent. Comments on the previous day are the inspiration for the fandom chosen the next. This one completely made my day. Total win, yo.
Day Nine - Sunshine
We've made it through the darkest part of the year and the sun is shining brilliantly today. It's reflecting off of every snow-covered surface (ie, everything) and is joyful, jubilant, and wonderful.
It's also -6 degrees Fahrenheit, but I have a small heater under my desk and several layers on, so I'm not feeling it right now.
This year's mood going into the holidaze is one of the more stable that I've had in recent memory. A large part of that is due to using my lightbox daily. There's something about pumping 10k lumens into my retinas over breakfast that makes the rest of the day much more bearable.
We finally figured out that I have Seasonal Affective Disorder last year. While at first I railed against my brain chemistry for picking yet another thing to make me nuts, this one isn't so bad. It's easily fixable by sitting in the sunshine, using my light box, and being aware that hibernating won't actually make things better in my head.
My new office faces south. My desk faces away from the window, but I can turn my chair and bask in the sunlight. It can be hard to maintain the balance in being a solar-powered Sabine and one whose skin will completely fry without a ton of sunscreen, but admitting this makes things a little easier.
