When Downwood's paternal grandfather died (Feb 2011), his dad allowed us to go through their house and choose keepsakes. That's how we "inherited" some incredibly lovely and old furniture, carnival glass, antique serving bowls, more knitting needles and yarn than I'll use in YEARS, and quite a few tools for the garage. We also took the quilts that his grandma hand quilted in her younger days.

Downwood also asked for, and received, his grandfather's WWII medals and memorabilia. I asked for, and received, some of his grandma's costume jewelry and am saving it for Emi.

Most of what we took were things that Downwood's cousins just didn't appreciate. They don't craft like we do, so they don't see the love in the quilts, blankets, or tools. They saw the value of some of the fancy things, but not the value of the humble things.

Anyway, one of things that Emi's discovered is her Great-Grandpa's harmonica. This harmonica is super-nice, old, and beautiful. She's obsessed with all things music, so she naturally thinks this is fantastic. We, however, don't really want the 3.75-year old playing with a harmonica from the 50s. So I found a cheap purple plastic harmonica on Amazon and added it to my recent order.

She discovered her harmonica on Daddy's desk last night. She greeted me at the door with a serenade of music. She's now, apparently, harmonica-ing at Ox.

She loves music. I love her.
