Unlikely Belly Dance Playlist
  1. Thriller - Michael Jackson
  2. Enter Sandman - Metallica
  3. Strange Messenger - Vixy and Tony
  4. Black Ball Line - Ten Seconds of Harmony
  5. I'm a Rover - Great Big Sea.
  6. Long Cool Woman - Rockapella version
  7. Black Magic Woman - Santana

These are songs that speak to me that aren't "normal" for belly dance. They all have good rhythm and just feel right to me. I'll add more songs as I remember. I also take suggestions.

It was bound to happen. I was expecting it to happen and I was still surprised that it actually became reality. Dammit.

There are certain laws of physics that you learn when you start learning turns in dance. Try to stay "pulled up", take small steps, keep your feet moving, and for the love of little green apples SPOT! If you do these things, you will go in a (generally) straight line and not get terribly dizzy. Yes, you still get a little dizzy, especially when doing several turns in a row, but you get used to it with practice. It's a matter of convincing your brain that your inner ear doesn't know what it's talking about.

Last night, during drills, we were working on inward two-step turns (if you start with your right foot, you turn counter-clockwise - it's a little harder than the other way) and barrel turns. We also do three-step turns, pivots, paddle turns, and outward turns at times. Belly dance is down with the spinning.

I've been doing these types of turns for about a year and a half. My body knows what it feels like to turn and what it's supposed to be doing. Last night, however, I became suddenly, drastically aware that my center of mass is not where it's supposed to be. Wobble city. I couldn't go in a straight line and got more dizzy than I knew I should be feeling.

I was really hoping that I'd get used to Peanut slowly. I was expecting that my center of mass would be shifting gradually and the big change would be re-adjusting once I have the kid. No such luck. And since I have a couple more months to go, I figure that as soon as I get used to where my center is right now, it's going to move again. My brain knows the physics of this, but my body has no idea how to handle it.

Dammit.
