whee! vacation
Aug. 10th, 2007 10:49 amThe vacation is going splendidly. I've gotten enough sleep for three whole nights in a row! I finished the first of my two scheduled reconstruction projects, made some truly delicious food, read some good books, and played a lot of Puzzle Pirates (Sabinei in Cobalt ocean).
Reconstruction projects -
I was an idiot and didn't take pictures during my first attempt at converting a pair of old pants into a skirt. The finished garment is so much more comfortable and cute than I'd ever expected, so I'll do a write up when I've got this pictures of the finished product.
Books -
I'm in the middle of both Something Rotten and First Among Sequels, which is interesting for my headspace. I bought and read two Pearls Before Swine collections (neded extra books to take up the Amazon free shipping offer). I've also re-read the Pirates! books and The Blue Girl.
Food -
Using the fresh produce from the Farmers' Market, I made some delicious pesto and the best green beans I've ever tasted.
For the pesto, I took all the good leaves off of a bundle of basil (about the size of a bouquet, $1 at the Market) and threw them in the food processor with some olive oil, a good scoop of parmesean cheese, some kosher salt, a scant handful of pine nuts, and a tablespoon or so of garlic, I kept adding olive oil during the blending until it was the right consistency and served it over fresh cheese tortellini from Trader Joe's.
The green beans started with 1 pound of fresh beans that I washed and snapped. I put them in a pan with a couple tablespoons butter, the last bit of balsalmic vinegarette from the fridge, a small scoop of garlic, and a little kosher salt. I sauteed them until they were tender and the dressing caramelized into an amazingly delicious sauce. So good.
