sabine: (genius makes me horny!)
This has been an exceptionally busy week at work. Last week, I was working with a newer person to try to unravel why our mutual customer was having so many problems with what should have been a simple step in their build. We uncovered a data corruption/integrity error.

This is the sort of thing that the Evil Empire takes very seriously. At the request of the lead tech on the project, I wrote it up and escalated it with our highest priority: the one that a copy lands on the CEO/Owner's desk.

I sent out this notification on Tuesday, after several days of meetings and digging into both data and code. As expected, all hell broke loose when we told the customer. They (totally understandably) utterly freaked out and I was being pulled into meeting after meeting to calm, explain, and reassure them that everything is going to be fine.

Also on Tuesday, I had to take my dog to the vet since she'd been on a hunger strike for several days and wouldn't drink. The vet said she was very dehydrated, but not showing any symptoms of being very ill. They gave her a bunch of fluids and some tummy-settling pills and gooshy food.

Wednesday was probably the worst day this week. I got several emails fowarded to me that said I'm a bad tech since I hadn't fixed an issue that they never told me about. No, I'm still not psychic. I also had several other issues come up that needed to be fixed Right Then and Why Aren't You Helping MEEEEE!?!?!?!11!

I snapped a little, ranted a little, and came home to my dog and my husband.

It totally surprised me, therefore, when yesterday was a great day. I got some things crossed of the List Of How We Fix This, accomplished a lot, and was able to go through the day still stressed out, but with a smile on my face. I went to crochet guild in the evening and got to chat with a friend.

Today was equally splendid. I was in meetings for about 7 hours of my workday, but solved a couple of problems despite that. My ultimate supervisors for both of my active customers sent emails to me and my team lead saying that I'm a rock star. I actually was able to make it to the gym. Then, when Downwood got home, we went out for sushi and books since I got paid and our federal tax refund came in. My dog is back to eating and being her normally spastic self. Life is pretty darn good. I can handle this!
