mmm...I needed that
Jul. 30th, 2006 06:04 pmLast night, for the first time in nearly two years, the band was back together, if only for the one night. Three out of the four of us who lived in that apartment were in the same place. We drank quite a lot of booze, got yelled at by the hotel staff, played cards, hugged, and laughed like there wouldn't be a tomorrow.
bexdragon,
vlammers, and I enjoyed several glasses of Rise of the Third Reich and
galieth and
downwood were the sober observers of our drunken semi-debauchery. In a surprising turn of events, I actually remember the entire evening, which is a very good thing, as it was one of the more fun and relaxing experiences I've had in the last two months or so.
I needed this. I needed this so very badly. These two women (and the two guys, but mostly my girlies) have played such important roles in my life. They've kept me sane and smiling on two continents and been there whenever I've needed a friend. I love them a whole lot and wish that we lived close enough to do this much more often. Entropy levels are high and life is good.
After dragging ourselves out of bed this morning, Downwood and I had breakfast with teh Bex and Galieth before they had to head toward a family shindig. After lots of hugs and promises to "remember, remember the eighteenth of November: the gunpowder, treason, and....huh. That doesn't really work, does it?" Downwood and I managed to find our way to the door of
maxmelig and
arsvulpes where we got to meet
mearn4d10 in person. This was extremely shiny. Rain made some more friends for us, and we spent a good while chatting and having an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable conversation for having just met these people. Next time, dice need to be involved. I'm just saying, is all.
The car rides were long, hot, but rather relaxing. We had 10 hours of enforced alone time, which was something that we needed. Lots of talk of gaming, some talk about things that have been going on, very little talk about anything concerning the wedding, and some outright weirdness. Anything that involves me spontaneously belting out the first verse and chorus of "Grundy County Auction" (without missing a single word, I might add) definitely falls into the "weirdness" category.
Downwood starts his new job tomorrow, so if you could send warm wishes his way, I'd appreciate it. The next month is going to get interesting as far as finances go, but I think we'll be able to handle it. The raise I got on Friday helps a lot with that. We have meetings with the florist, DJ, and the reception catering people Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week, so that's going to be both productive and expensive. Other than that, there's faire to be enjoyed, gaming to find new people to play with, minis to paint, books to read, movies to watch, and friends to hug. Life is good.
