noooooooooo!!
Jul. 24th, 2006 12:47 pmAugust 10 and 11 of this year have been scheduled for my annual trip to the Iowa State Fair. In the company of Downwood and my sister, we will watch the Nadas perform twice on Thursday night, go to the Fair all day Friday with my mother and other assorted relatives, and then watch the Nadas again twice on Friday. Last year, we then went to the West Point Sweet Corn Festival on Saturday, where Downwood had his first funnel cake.
Good times, good times.
This year, the plan is to have a reprise of last year, but get up extremely early on Saturday to drive to Bloomington where Downwood's mother and aunt are throwing me a bridal shower. I'm kind of nervous about this, but I figure that things will probably turn out okay.
This was the plan, and I was happy with it. I was very much looking forward to the ritual of eating fried anything onna stick, drinking beer, and grooving to my very favorite band. I'm still looking forward to it and glad that I'm going to be there, but I found out about something happening here in Madison on the 10th that made my little fangirl heart slam abruptly into the wall of I-can't-be-in-two-places-at-once.
Jasper Fforde, author of the Thursday Next and Jack Spratt series, will be giving a talk at Booked For Murder Ltd at 5:45 on the 10th. If you've never read these books, I encourage you to pick them up. There are four books in the Thursday Next series (beginning with The Eyre Affair) and the second book in the Jack Spratt series (started with The Big Over Easy) just came out this month, hence the tour.
