I am a checkout-lane-cookbook/magazine junkie. Luckily, the store that is now my usual food procurement center doesn't have them. During the summer, my resistance is pretty high. In winter, when they start publishing Christmas cookies and wintery foods, I am weak.
Which is why I bought one over the weekend that's all about using a slow cooker. Using my love for my Crockpot, I made the most amazing cheesy potato soup for dinner tonight. Me = so very full.
In other news, we have a very weird and very, very smart doggy. Rain is scary smart. She has completely mastered both up and down stairs! Considering she'd never even seen more than five stairs in any one place before Friday, that's really impressive.
She's also figured out that if she looks at the cats and her ears perk at all, she gets yelled at, but if she ignores the kitties and looks away, she gets praised and petted. It took her about four hours after moving in to learn this trick. Considering the cats didn't start coming out for a while, this too is damn impressive.
But, still, she's a weird little girl. She won't touch the rawhide bones that Downwood's mother got her for Christmas. No, she likes treats like chips and salsa and popcorn with mesquite seasoning. I wasn't surprised when she liked the liver sausage and Wheat Thins, but salsa?! Weird doggy.
She doesn't like getting cold, but she lurves being outside. I made her a hood last night and am setting up to make her a coat tonight. If I get my patootie in gear, it should be done so that we can go on a really long ramble tomorrow night.
