I give up

*shakes head in disbelief* After reading the text of our president's speech last night, I am a bit speechless. (get it? speechless? heheh...god, I'm a nerd) I don't really agree with his carefree assertion that everything's going to be fine in Iraq from now on. We're just going to leave troops there for "our security", but the Iraqi people will have freedom and democracy and be able to strengthen their identity as a nation without turning into America East. Maybe I'm too cynical; maybe I should adopt some of Dubya's optimism...or maybe we're just looking at different versions of reality...

and if anyone can explain why I woke up almost an hour before my alarm was set to go off and couldn't get back to sleep, I'd really appreciate it. *tired smile*

And the afternoon started out so nicely, too....

*rewind*

Lab meeting was quite random today. Things that were funny -

Me: There's a piece of plastic or something in my soda can.
Boss: Could be worse. It could be a cockroach *makes little hand motions* "help, help! let me out of the can"
~~~~~
Person #1: (entering at very end of meeting) Did I miss anything?
Me: Yeah, the hilarity, the arguing, the Jello wrestling...
Person #2: *doubles over laughing*
Everyone else, not paying attention
~~~~~
Boss and Person #1 talking
Person #3 points out a line of text to #2, #2 shows it to me, I show to #4. We all laugh uproariously.
Text in NIH grant application: Approximately 200 mice are anticipated to accomplish Aim 2. (mental image of the mice in lab coats doing the experiments for us, sort of like in Cinderella...hilarity ensues)
~~~~~
So after an entertaining lab meeting, I went to collect the data from an experiment that I began on Sunday (damn multiday protocols). I got nuthin' The only useful data were the ones saying that I really screwed up somewhere along the way. *frustrated sigh* I wonder if there's some cosmic rule about how many experiments are allowed to be successful per month (or other unit time). Ah well, I'll just begin again tomorrow.
Mustn't forget the Inspirational Quote of the Arbitrary Time Period:
"When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before."
