Alex isn't on the autism spectrum. Probably. Right now, we think he has speech apraxia and some anxiety issues - if you ask him to do something more than twice, he'll freeze up and start sobbing. Luckily, I understand anxiety. He also has MANY food allergies and EOE, making things even more difficult for him.
The neurology appointment is mostly so that we can rule out a seizure disorder on top of everything else. He collapsed in the hallway at school last week and no one knows why. The doctors want to be sure that there's nothing else going on that he can't tell us about.
Overall, he's a sweet, caring, intelligent kid. Last night, he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the living room. He needed snuggles from Momma, so we cuddled and watched some TV before dinner.
I was worried about the spectrum issues for a long time, but he's been checked out by several experts who all agree that he's got something else that's messing with his developmental milestones. We don't know exactly what it is yet, but he's getting speech therapy at school and is finally starting to attempt sounds.
Thank you for your comment! It's nice to know I'm not alone with worrying about kiddos. :) And loving good books. :D
