fairly happy update

Today has been a good day for resolutions.

Downwood and I started the day off in an argument over nothing, but managed to get it figured out before it got extremely out of hand. This is good, as I don't particularly like being mad at him or having him mad with me.

No, really, it was over something that was so small and insignificant that it got spun out of control way too easily. Neither one of us is particularly logical when hungry and decaffeinated...this is why we should avoid going out for breakfast in the future.

This afternoon, I started the thank-you notes for the bridal shower that Downwood's mother and aunt threw for me yesterday. I was incredibly stunned by the amount of gifts that were given to me/us. We got new silverware, pots, pans, bedding, cookbooks, glasses in three different sizes, picture frames, more kitchen stuff, a new quilt, et al. The dog had about 6 square feet in the back of the Jeep to lay down, the rest of the truck was *filled* with presents. These people astonished me with their generosity to the point that I could barely talk. I don't know if I'm actually worthy to be joining this family, but I hope to have the chance to prove it (that I'm worthy, not that I suck).

Downwood's started the process of going through our kitchen to donate the things that we no longer need. If you want or need kitchen things, let us know, as we'll most likely have something for you. My sister was noting the things we got with great glee, as she figures (correctly) that she can put dibs on any of our old stuff.

It was nice to get to meet most of Downwood's female family and Friends of Family before the wedding. They were exceptionally kind and welcoming of me and my family, though they all thought that my mom was my sister and my grandmother was my mom. We all got a kick out of that.

Finally had a talk with a friend tonight that, I hope, cleared up a couple of hurt feelings and misconceptions. The problem with being blunt and straightforward to a science-minded Scorpio is that she will almost always assume that there's something you're not saying and she wants to know what it is. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, I think things are better, which is a very, very good thing.

The final bit of finishing done today was on a mini that's been fighting me the entire way. I finally laid down the law and told it to cooperate. I'm truly impressed by the outcome. As soon as I figure out how to photograph it (the highlights and shadows look strange when the overhead lights aren't from the right angle), I'll post some pictures of it.

After staring at some of the professional mini painters' galleries, I realized that the only thing separating me from them was practice and the willingness to completely screw up and learn from it, and the two minis I've finished since then are the best I've done by far. I think this is a very good thing and speaks a lot about my mentality in general.
